An ancient philosopher, teacher, astronomer, mathematician and visionary; Hypatia was a free thinker who dispensed of societal norms in her search for Truth. Not only was her mind very forward thinking but so was her behavior.
 
Hypatia went against what was thought to be the norm for women’s behavior in public; she said, dressed and acted freely whilst holding a high position as the head of the school of Alexandria (Egypt).
 
As her political influence grew, so did her detractors and she was eventually brutally murdered by those who hated what she represented. Hypatia died a martyr of free thought and expression.
